Ooohh boy it's hard to write visceral depression when you're on antidepressants!

This was released 4 years after Can You Say My Name Again and you can feel it in the writing, it's sooo much punchier.

I don't know about you, my dear widdle reader, but I'm willing to wager that a lot of people, feel a crushing sense of futility and powerlessness: in trying to connect with others, in trying to live one's life in peace, in trying to love oneself.

Most of that is due to the sorts of messages that are conveyed to us by the world around us: you need to conform to our standards of being in order to not get rejected, you must devote yourself to society and the accumulation of capital, and you are worthless if you don't fulfill these things.

In doomsday dreamgirl, the futility of existence cannot be ignored anymore, the end of the world is imminent.

Why even bother fighting against that, when things are this inevitable? It's better to isolate yourself and go completely numb, to avoid all the pain.

But actually, you encounter something completely different: suffering. I don't know where the notion that "suffering is pain without joy or love" comes from, but it's true, you cannot get your mind off the things you do not have.

In the end, it may be easier to push through the pain, to turn it into love and action, than to try to stew in misery, even if it really is all futile.

"[...] My entire life had been a seemingly endless trek from a shitty situation to an awful one. Everything I ever loved just rewarding me with anguish and hardship. [...] Yet within these final days it had been so much easier to turn all that energy into love."

Looking at the comments in itch.io, it seems alot people took away from this game was despair and sadness, but for me that's not it, the ending to the story feels *resolute*, going straight into oblivion, hand in hand.

I really love the title theme, it really fits the themes and tone of the game, crushing drums, ominous whispering, but the melody still tries to cut through.
